Shohei Ohtani of the MLB's Los Angeles Dodgers secured his 8th win of the season with a quality start (at least 6 innings pitched with 3 or fewer earned runs), while Mookie Betts reached a major milestone with his 300th career home run.
The Dodgers defeated the Minnesota Twins 4-3 in their away game held at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, today (June 25).
With this victory, the Dodgers swept the three-game road series against Minnesota, solidifying their position at the top of the National League West with a season record of 52 wins and 29 losses.
Betts took the lead in setting the tone for the game.
Leading off in the top of the 2nd inning, Betts smashed a solo home run to reach the 300-home run mark in his Major League career.
Ohtani, who started as both the pitcher and the leadoff hitter, gave up consecutive hits and 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning, allowing Minnesota to take a 3-1 lead.
However, he made up for it at the plate.
In the top of the 3rd inning, with a runner on second and no outs, Ohtani hit an RBI single to center field, signaling the start of a comeback.
Buoyed by Ohtani's RBI, the Dodgers tied the game at 3-3 with an RBI single from Max Muncy, and then quickly turned the game around to 4-3 following a sacrifice fly to right field by Alex Call.
Regaining his composure on the mound, Ohtani struck out 8 batters and held the Minnesota lineup scoreless through the 6th inning.
The bullpen maintained the one-run lead for the remainder of the game, earning Ohtani his 8th win of the season.
