The upcoming film 'Ripple' (working title) has officially wrapped up all filming.
'Ripple' tells the story of the Yedong Kwon family, who have carried on a dangerous, illegal family business for generations. Following the sudden death of the family's eldest grandson and heir, an uncontrollable wave of conflict erupts over who will become the next successor. Byun Yo-han, Esom, Kim Jun-han, and Kim Jong-soo lead the cast, delivering a delicate portrayal of the tension and fractures between the characters. They are joined by Japanese actor Sho Kasamatsu, who has made a name for himself among Korean audiences through 'Good News' and 'Taxi Driver 3'.
From their very first table read, the cast teased a palpable tension, and throughout the shoot, the actors and crew worked tirelessly to craft each scene with high density and precision, successfully wrapping up principal photography.
Byun Yo-han plays Park Ki-tae, a man who has handled the family's dirtiest work despite not sharing their blood, in a household where family lineage is everything. He shared, "Every single moment on set was incredibly intense. Under a constant state of tension, we built each scene piece by piece alongside the director, actors, and crew. I am looking forward to every single scene, and I hope all the hard work we put into this film translates into a wide range of emotions for the audience when it hits theaters."
Esom, who plays Kwon So-hyun, the eldest daughter of the Kwon family, expressed her thoughts: "Sohyun is a character who really needs to anchor the story. Because she has to maintain her emotional balance and chemistry with her senior co-stars until the very end, I couldn't let my guard down for even a second. I hope the hard work of our crew and actors is fully felt by the audience in theaters."
Kim Jun-han, who plays the central figure and eldest grandson, Kwon Do-young, said, "Whenever a project ends, it usually takes some time to sink in. But for this film, the cast and crew were exceptionally passionate, and there were so many scenes that demanded intense focus. Because of that, it feels like it all ended in the blink of an eye. Still, I feel proud knowing we did our absolute best to make a great film. Please look forward to it."
Kim Jong-soo, who plays the uncle, Kwon Byung-ryul, shared his mixed emotions, saying, "As with every shoot, I went in with high expectations and tried my best to contribute to the film's quality. Now that it's over, I feel a mix of lingering regrets and a sense of relief that we've successfully wrapped up another project."
Director Kim Sun-kyung, who helmed the film, expressed her determination: "I spent over six years preparing this story, and back then, I never imagined I would actually be able to finish this film. Now that principal photography is complete, I'm filled with excitement that the movie is finally coming to life. Thanks to the immense hard work of the actors and crew, I believe we have a wonderful film on our hands. I will do my best to wrap up post-production and stay strong until the day we can finally meet the audience."
Marking Director Kim Sun-kyung's commercial feature debut, 'Ripple' is a film that delves deep into traditional patriarchal order and internal family power dynamics, densely portraying the clashing desires of each character. While rookie director Kim Sun-kyung wrote and directed the film, director Byun Sung-hyun of 'Good News' and 'The Merciless' joined as a co-writer, further elevating the genre's suspense.
Following post-production, 'Ripple' is set to meet audiences in 2027.
