[Anchor] First, there is growing controversy over the delayed release of CCTV footage from an incident last year in Changwon, where two middle school students lost their lives at a motel.
Critics are pouring out, arguing that the police response was lax despite the situation being classified as a top-priority emergency.
The incident occurred at a motel in Changwon last December.
A man in his 20s attacked three teenagers with a weapon, ultimately resulting in the tragic deaths of two middle school students.
The CCTV footage, recently obtained and released on an online community by the bereaved families, shows the responding police officers walking up the motel stairs without any sense of urgency.
At the time, the situation was classified as a "Code Zero," the highest emergency level issued for critical situations such as murders or threats with weapons.
Furthermore, it was revealed that the victims had called the police twice themselves while suffering from stab wounds, providing the name of the motel and their room number to plead for help.
Netizens who viewed the footage are criticizing the police for their lackadaisical response, with comments such as, "Is this really an emergency situation?" and "The initial response was disappointing."
The bereaved families have currently filed a lawsuit against the state, seeking 500 million won in damages.
