▲ Former Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung arrives at the 2nd Comprehensive Special Counsel Team in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, on June 24 for questioning as a suspect regarding allegations including involvement in an insurrection.
The 2nd Comprehensive Special Counsel Team summoned former Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung at 10:00 a.m. today (June 24) for questioning regarding allegations of "involvement in an insurrection."
Shim appeared as a suspect on charges including participation in key duties of an insurrection.
Shim is accused of reviewing the dispatch of prosecutors to the Martial Law Joint Investigation Headquarters under the direction of former Justice Minister Park Sung-jae on the day the emergency martial law was declared.
After attending a cabinet meeting that day, former Minister Park returned to the Ministry of Justice and convened a meeting of senior officials.
Ten officials, including heads of offices and bureaus at the Ministry of Justice, were present at the time, and allegations have been raised that Park instructed the Prosecution Bureau to "review the dispatch of prosecutors to the Joint Investigation Headquarters" during this meeting.
It has been determined that former Minister Park had three phone conversations with Shim between 11:00 p.m. on the day martial law was declared and the following morning.
This has sparked suspicions that Park may have also instructed Shim to dispatch prosecutors to the joint investigation team.
The court also previously made a judgment in the trial of former Minister Park to the effect that Shim's involvement in the insurrection is suspected.
Shim also faces charges of abuse of power related to allegations of suppressing investigations involving First Lady Kim Keon-hee.
He is accused of being involved in the decision to clear the First Lady of charges without a proper investigation during the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's handling of the "Deutsch Motors stock manipulation allegations" and the "Dior bag receipt allegations."
