Wang Yi, China's top diplomat and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (concurrently serving as Foreign Minister), and Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, met to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation amidst the rapidly changing international landscape.
According to a statement released by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its website yesterday (June 23), Wang met with Shoigu in New Delhi, India, on the same day. Wang stated, "China hopes to continuously strengthen comprehensive strategic cooperation between China and Russia," adding, "We hope to accelerate the development and revitalization of both nations and contribute to global peace and development."
He continued, "BRICS is an important platform for the international community to practice multilateralism, uphold fairness and justice, and promote peace and security," and added, "China and Russia should strengthen coordination and cooperation to ensure the continuous expansion of the BRICS framework, making it truly the primary force of the 'Global South'."
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Shoigu said, "Facing the great changes of the century, Russia and China must deepen mutual trust, engage in close cooperation, and jointly resist various forms of interference and infiltration by external forces in the security sector," adding, "We must also oppose Japan's attempts at remilitarization."
Shoigu further added, "Russia hopes to work with China to enhance strategic coordination within multilateral mechanisms such as BRICS and jointly safeguard regional and global peace and stability."
The day before, Foreign Minister Wang met with Yousef Al-Ala El-Din, Secretary-General of the Egyptian National Security Council, to discuss the situation in the Middle East. Emphasizing dialogue between the United States and Iran, he stated, "Now that the door to peace has been opened, it must not be closed again."
He emphasized, "The negotiation process may not always be smooth and may face various obstacles and even twists and turns," adding, "No matter what difficulties and challenges arise, we must adhere to the direction of peace and continue dialogue and negotiations."
Wang also stated that China has consistently maintained that regional conflicts and differences between countries should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation, and that it opposes the use of force or the threat of force.
He continued, "The fact that the United States and Iran have promised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to respect each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, not to resume military actions, and not to interfere in each other's internal affairs sends a positive signal to the international community," and added, "This must be jointly maintained and implemented."
Furthermore, he stated, "China is willing to maintain close communication with Egypt and contribute jointly to regional peace and stability by promoting a ceasefire and peace negotiations through our respective channels."
The Chinese Foreign Ministry reported that the Egyptian side highly valued the important role China has played in ending the war and promoting peace.
