President Lee Jae-myung will host a dinner for the diplomatic corps in Korea at the Blue House's Nokjiwon garden this evening (June 23) to share his diplomatic strategy for the second year of his administration and discuss achievements made thus far.
The Blue House announced that the event will be attended by ambassadors from all 118 resident diplomatic missions, including the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Moroccan Ambassador Chafik Rachadi, as well as representatives from 30 international organizations.
President Lee is scheduled to sit at the head table with the ambassadors from Morocco, Japan, the Philippines, New Zealand, Mongolia, the European Union (EU), the Holy See, and Chile, as well as the chargés d'affaires from the United States and China.
The Blue House explained that the seating arrangement was determined by considering the countries and regions involved in major summit diplomacy visits and receptions this year.
"The dinner menu has been curated to suit the atmosphere of Nokjiwon in June, featuring a concept of Korean-style charcoal-grilled barbecue (K-BBQ) and 'chimaek' (chicken and beer)," the Blue House stated, adding, "We have also prepared Korean-style fresh kimchi (geotjeori) and ssam-bap (rice wraps) to accompany the meal."
In particular, the main course of Korean-style charcoal-grilled barbecue will utilize a variety of seasonal ingredients while respecting the religious and dietary cultures of each country. With the exception of pork belly, all beef, lamb chops, and chicken sausages will be prepared as halal.
Options for vegans and other vegetarians will also be provided.
During today's event, President Lee plans to share diplomatic achievements, including the recent G7 Summit and his subsequent tour of Europe, with the diplomatic corps and discuss the direction of his administration's diplomacy for the second year.
The Blue House explained, "We intend to signal to the international community that communication with the diplomatic corps in Korea has been fully restored and that we will continue to engage in substantive exchanges. We plan to present the core direction for the full-scale implementation of pragmatic diplomacy in the second year of the administration and request the continued support and cooperation of each nation."
President Lee previously hosted a dinner for the diplomatic corps at the Blue House's Yeongbingwan in August of last year.
This marks the first time a dinner for the diplomatic corps is being held at the Nokjiwon garden since the return to the Blue House.
