Singer Kim Jong-min and Professor Seo Kyoung-duk of Sungshin Women's University have teamed up to release a multilingual video highlighting the history and ecological value of Dokdo.
Professor Seo announced on May 6, "We have produced and released a video titled 'Dokdo Rocks, History We Must Know' featuring Kim Jong-min, which is now available both domestically and internationally."
The video was co-produced with the Gyeongbuk Culture Contents Agency and is approximately 4 minutes and 30 seconds long. It has been produced in both Korean and English versions to reach viewers not only in Korea but also across the globe.
The video highlights that Dokdo, which consists of hundreds of rocks, is a massive ecological museum designated as Natural Monument No. 336. In particular, it introduces various rocks that hold historical significance, such as 'Haenyeo Rock', which reflects the lives of Jeju female divers who engaged in economic activities on Dokdo, and 'Gaje Rock', the former habitat of the Dokdo sea lions that went extinct due to overhunting during the Japanese colonial period.
Professor Seo explained, "I planned this video to share the stories of the rocks, which are the living history and records of Dokdo, in an easier and more engaging way for both domestic and international audiences. We are sharing the video not only on YouTube but also through various social media channels and communities for Koreans and international students worldwide."
Kim Jong-min, known as one of the celebrities who has visited Dokdo the most through various TV programs, participated in the narration for the video. Kim stated, "It is meaningful to share the history of Dokdo's rocks through my voice," adding, "I hope many people at home and abroad will watch the video and remember the significance of Dokdo together."
