Director Na Hong-jin's new film 'HOPE' has unveiled six intense, immersive stills ahead of its world premiere in the competition section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
The newly released stills offer a glimpse into the mise-en-scène and style of the film 'HOPE'. From 'Beom-seok' (Hwang Jung-min) seen through a hazy window under the gaze of an unknown presence in a dark space, to 'Seong-gi' (Zo In-sung) aiming a gun deep in the forest, and 'Seong-ae' (Jung Ho-yeon) holding a weapon in a devastated village, these snapshots capture moments of high tension, heightening anticipation for the unique visual experience that 'HOPE' promises.
The stills from 'HOPE' vividly capture the characters as they face an unbelievable reality against the backdrop of Hopo Port. Whether it's 'Beom-seok,' the local police station chief, taking cover behind a broken wall with a gun, 'Seong-gi,' a local youth making an emergency call, or 'Seong-ae' looking at something with a startled expression from a police car, the images highlight the transformative performances of Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, and Jung Ho-yeon as they struggle to protect their village.
'HOPE' tells the story of 'Beom-seok,' the chief of the Hopo Port police station located in the demilitarized zone, who hears reports of a tiger sighting from local youths, leading to an emergency situation across the village as they encounter an unbelievable reality.
The film has been invited to the competition section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off on May 12, and is vying for the Palme d'Or. This marks the first time a Korean film has entered the Cannes competition section in four years, following director Park Chan-wook's 'Decision to Leave'.
