Actor Ryu Soo-young shed tears while confessing during a recording that he once nearly lost his daughter.
Airing on the 30th, SBS's 'Tails of Tales' will shed light on a series of kidnappings, murders, and disappearances of infants and toddlers that occurred in a single village starting in 1991, and will launch a "Nationwide Project to Find Long-Term Missing Children." Actors Ryu Soo-young, Keum Sae-rok, and TWS member SHINYU will appear as listeners on this episode.
The episode tracks the full story of a tragic case that has remained unsolved for over 30 years. In 1991, a total of five children, ranging from a six-day-old newborn to a five-year-old girl, were either kidnapped or murdered in the Daecheon area, sending shockwaves through society at the time.
In particular, when the cruelty of the case—in which a five-year-old girl who had been sleeping next to her mother was found dead in a rice paddy the next day—was revealed, guest Keum Sae-rok expressed her outrage, saying, "I'm so angry," while TWS member SHINYU was left speechless, stating, "This is truly unimaginable," leaving the studio in a state of shock.
Ryu Soo-young, an actor and father of a daughter, spoke with difficulty, saying, "I also once nearly lost my daughter." He shared his feelings at the time, stating, "I went through hell several times during those 30 seconds I spent searching for her." Deeply empathizing with the pain of parents of missing children, he eventually broke down in tears, drawing sympathy from those around him.
In celebration of Family Month in May, 'Tails of Tales' is launching a "Nationwide Project" that utilizes the latest generative AI-based age progression technology from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) AI & Robotics Institute to create videos showing the current estimated appearances of missing children. Over the past six months, 26 celebrities and public figures—including Choi Kwang-il, Kim Na-young, STAYC's Sieun, Han Ji-hye, Shin So-yul, AtHeart's Arin, Son Dam-bi, LUCY's Shin Ye-chan, Lee Guk-joo, Choi Jin-hyuk, Billlie's TSUKI, Ko Woo-rim, fromis_9's Song Ha-young, Park Hyo-joo, Yoon Nam-no, Kim Yu-mi, THE BOYZ's YOUNGHOON, Yoon Sung-bin, Kim Jin-soo, Kim Kwang-hyun, Pyo Chang-won, Lee Sang-min, Solbi, Jang Do-yeon, Jang Hyun-sung, and Jang Sung-kyu—have contributed their voices to help find long-term missing children. The produced videos will be aired on 'Tails of Tales' and broadcast through SBS channels until May 25.
The first part of the 'Tails of Tales' special, "Finding Long-Term Missing Children," will air on Thursday, the 30th, at 10:20 PM.
