The "self-producing group" 82MAJOR has returned with a more mature sensibility, reinterpreting the concept of "love."
82MAJOR held a press showcase to commemorate the release of their 5th mini album, "FEELM," at the Yes24 Wonderlock Hall in Changcheon-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 28th, marking the start of their comeback activities.
This album is their first new release in about 6 months, following their 4th mini album "Trophy" released last October. The album title "FEELM" is a combination of the words "Feel" and "Film," signifying that the moments of various emotions have been captured like a single film.
Member Kim Do Gyun shared his thoughts on the release, stating, "This album was created to capture various emotions like a film. We tried to infuse our own color more deeply." Yoon Ye Chan added, "It was a chic concept that we were trying for the first time, so there was some pressure, but as we prepared with the members, it gradually became more comfortable."
The title track, "Sign," features a dreamy melody and a restrained beat, expressing the emotions of two people growing closer as a "signal passing between you and me." Nam Seong Mo said, "We wanted to show 82MAJOR's own new style and maturity."
The performance is also a key highlight. The group showcased new choreography using suits and wristwatches. Park Seok Joon introduced it as, "The 'Tiki-Taki-Tack' choreography, which uses the wrists to represent a watch, is the core," adding, "It is an addictive point dance."
Furthermore, Nam Seong Mo mentioned he would like to perform the wrist dance with actor Lee Byung-hun from the movie "Inside Men," while Park Seok Joon expressed his gratitude to BTS's JUNGKOOK for showing support by reposting on social media, emphasizing that he would like to do a challenge with him.
The explanation of the music video followed. The music video for "Sign" features actors who appear to be brainwashed, looking in the same direction, to emphasize the theme.
Cho Seong Il stated, "It contains a message of recovering through the power of love within a worldview where true love has been lost due to brainwashing. It is a story where Do Gyun appears in a brainwashed state and is rescued." Do Gyun explained, "I expressed the 'state of not knowing love' with a gray suit and pink lenses." Hwang Seong Bin added, "We set pink as the color symbolizing love, but used it paradoxically to express it in a more interesting way."
82MAJOR cited their visuals and their ability to self-produce as the team's strengths.
Cho Seong Il emphasized, "Most of the members are around the same age, so we have good chemistry, and we give each other honest feedback during the work process. That kind of collaboration leads to good music." Yoon Ye Chan expressed confidence, saying, "The fact that all members have strengths in visuals and physique is also a differentiating factor." Park Seok Joon added, "The fact that we enjoy and immerse ourselves in our own music is the team's unique color."
Regarding the goals for this activity, Hwang Seong Bin chose to make 82MAJOR more widely known. He emphasized, "The goal for this activity is to become an album where people can listen to our songs and share a lot of love. Furthermore, as we have '82'―the country code for Korea―in our name, I hope we can promote Korea through more performances."
82MAJOR is solidifying its position as a self-producing idol group, with all members participating in the overall album production, including songwriting, composing, and arranging. Cho Seong Il expressed his ambition, saying, "I want to continue to grow with better music and let many people know about 82MAJOR."
Meanwhile, 82MAJOR is a 6-member multinational boy group under Great M Entertainment that debuted in 2023, and they have established themselves as a "performance-type idol" through European tours and domestic and international performances. This album was released on various music sites at 6 PM on the 28th.
