Actor Ahn Hyo-seop has captured viewers' hearts with his transformation into a grumpy yet warmhearted young farmer.
In the first episode of the SBS Wednesday-Thursday drama 'Sold Out on You' (written by Jin Seung-hee, directed by Ahn Jong-yeon), which aired on the 22nd, Ahn Hyo-seop left a strong impression as 'Matthew Lee,' a young farmer who hides a warm heart behind a sensitive and prickly exterior.
In the drama, Matthew Lee, played by Ahn Hyo-seop, is a young farmer who grows mushrooms in Deokpung Village. Despite his cold tone, he shows a "crispy on the outside, soft on the inside" charm by taking care of all the village's major and minor affairs, such as repairing the village hall antenna, chopping firewood, removing beehives, and making kimchi. In particular, in the scene where he blocks a bus with his cultivator and gives the driver a piece of his mind because the bus was inconveniencing the elderly, he fully brought out the character's charm with his unique calm yet powerful tone.
He also displayed the image of a steady farmer who is more sincere than anyone else about the 'White Flower World Mushroom' he cultivates. He revealed his professional side by banning workers from playing work songs to ensure the quality of the mushrooms and flatly rejecting a proposal from the famous cosmetics brand 'L'Etoile' to increase their order volume.
The comedic moments he shows while getting entangled with show host Dam Ye-jin (played by Won Bin), who suddenly appeared in the village, added to the fun of the show. He drew laughter with his clumsy side, such as stretching out his arms to measure the width of the road to ensure his cultivator wouldn't touch Dam Ye-jin's car while they were having a battle of pride on a one-way dirt road.
In particular, the scenes in Dam Ye-jin's imagination where Matthew Lee transforms into various personas, such as a celebrity, a con artist, and a conglomerate heir, allowed Ahn Hyo-seop's sly comedic acting to shine. It received explosive reactions in online communities, with comments like, "Ahn Hyo-seop's comedic acting is so funny," and "He's beyond a 'spoon of laughter,' he's a whole 'ladle of laughter'."
As such, expectations are high for what kind of fresh laughter and excitement Ahn Hyo-seop, who is showing off diverse charms by crossing between healing and comedy, will deliver in the future.
'Sold Out on You,' where you can see the successful image transformation of 'Global Rom-Com King' Ahn Hyo-seop, airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9 PM.
