Singer and actor NANA appeared in court as a witness in the home-invasion robbery case.
On the 21st, Criminal Division 1 of the Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Guk-sik) held a hearing for Mr. A, a man in his 30s who was indicted and detained on charges of robbery causing injury.
Arriving at court in a hat and mask, NANA told reporters, “I took a calming pill. I’m really nervous,” adding, “I wanted to keep my emotions in check. I plan to speak exactly as it happened―truthfully and transparently.”
Regarding Mr. A denying the charges, she said, “It’s absurd. It feels ironic that I have to be here,” and added, “If I speak honestly, the right verdict will come.”
Earlier, NANA submitted a statement requesting not to appear, citing the burden of facing Mr. A, but the court did not accept it.
Ahead of her appearance, she wrote on social media, “I know many of you are worried, but please don’t worry. I’ll do well.” Addressing Mr. A, she added, “I swear to state only the facts as they are. I’ll be watching to see how well you act.”
In court, NANA reportedly gave a detailed account of seeing Mr. A break into her home, threaten her mother, and how she disarmed him during the struggle.
Mr. A is accused of breaking into NANA’s home in Acheon-dong, Guri, Gyeonggi Province, on November 15 last year, threatening NANA and her mother with a weapon, demanding money, and causing injury. NANA and her mother subdued him after a physical struggle and handed him over to police.
Subsequently, A filed a counter-suit against NANA on charges including attempted murder, but the police decided not to indict, determining that it constituted self-defense. In response, NANA has filed a counter-suit against A on charges of false accusation.
