BTS has been nominated in three categories at the American Music Awards (AMA), one of the “Big Three” U.S. music award shows, including the coveted Artist of the Year ― proving their global impact once again.
According to the nominees announced by the AMAs on the 14th (local time), BTS landed a spot in Artist of the Year, the ceremony’s top prize. They became the first Korean act to win the category in 2021, and fans are watching to see if they can take it home again. They’ll be competing against global pop heavyweights like Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga.
BTS also earned nominations for Best Male K-Pop Artist and Song of the Summer, making it three total. Their new track "SWIM" is up for Song of the Summer, facing off against Harry Styles’ "American Girls" and Taylor Swift’s "Elizabeth Taylor." Notably, "SWIM" earned a nod less than a month after its release, underscoring its blazing global momentum.
The nominations line up with BTS’s recent chart streak. Their fifth studio album "ARIRANG" and its title track "SWIM" topped both the Billboard 200 albums chart and the Hot 100 songs chart in the U.S. On the Billboard 200, they set a first for a Korean artist with three consecutive weeks at No. 1. "SWIM" is also holding strong in the Hot 100’s Top 5 for a third straight week.
This year’s American Music Awards will take place on May 25 (local time) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The show will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+.
