Director Yeon Sang-ho, invited to the Cannes Film Festival for the fourth time with his film “COLONY,” shared his reaction.

Through distributor Showbox on the 10th, Yeon said, “I’m so happy to present ‘COLONY’ at the Cannes Film Festival, a global celebration of cinema. I’m especially excited that it will screen in the Midnight Screenings section, which you could call the gathering place for genre-film fans worldwide.”

He added, “I’ll proudly introduce Korean genre cinema together with the cast who worked on the film. Thank you.”

“COLONY” was invited to the Midnight Screenings section, as announced at a press conference in Paris on April 9 for the 79th Cannes Film Festival. This marks Yeon’s fourth Cannes invitation.

Yeon was previously invited with his first feature animation “The King of Pigs” (2012, Directors’ Fortnight), “Train to Busan” (2016, Midnight Screenings), and “Peninsula” (2020, Official Selection).

“COLONY” is set inside a locked-down building amid a mysterious outbreak, where isolated survivors face off against infected beings that evolve in unpredictable ways. The film stars Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, and Shin Hyun-been.

This year’s Cannes Film Festival runs from May 12 to 23 in Cannes, France. Director Yeon Sang-ho and the film’s leads plan to visit during the festival for the official screening and press interviews.
