Former 4Minute member-turned-actor Kwon Sohyun is making her theater debut.
Kwon will meet audiences in the play ‘Jeong-hee,’ running at YES24 Stage Hall 3 in Daehak-ro, Seoul, through June 14. The production marks her first-ever play and a bold new challenge.
Through Cube Entertainment, Kwon shared, “I’m nervous to do my first play, but I’m also excited to be back onstage after a long time. Because it’s a spinoff, I worked to keep the original’s tone while finding ‘Jeong-hee’s’ own color. Since I’m playing two roles, I focused on making the differences clear.”
‘Jeong-hee’ is a spinoff of the drama "My Mister." It reinterprets the story through the eyes of Jeong-hee, who runs the longtime bar “Jeong-hee’s” in Seoul’s Hugye-dong. From her perspective, a small crack in a familiar place spreads to reshape an entire life.
Onstage, Kwon will play both Ji-an and a young Jeong-hee, anchoring the production. Her dual role moves across different timelines, promising a nuanced portrayal of shifting emotions.
“This story makes you think, ‘I wish I had someone like Jeong-hee by my side,’ and also, ‘I hope someone is by Jeong-hee’s side,’” she said. “It’s a tale that lets you feel human warmth. I hope you’ll watch with the heart of cheering on someone as they awaken the strength to live as themselves.”
The play also draws attention for reimagining Ji-an―the character that earned high praise when portrayed by Lee Ji-eun (IU) in "My Mister." With Ji-an remembered for restrained emotion and delicate acting, anticipation is building for how Kwon will reinterpret her onstage.
The original "My Mister" was hailed as a “life drama,” earning acclaim from both critics and viewers. Set against a dark, realistic backdrop, it portrayed healing through relationships and asked, “What makes a good adult?” How that mood and message expand in ‘Jeong-hee’ will be a key point to watch.
Meanwhile, last September Kwon renewed her exclusive contract with Cube Entertainment, signaling a fresh start. With ‘Jeong-hee,’ she extends her craft to the stage and is set to further expand her footing as an actor.
