Comedian Jang Dong-min, who previously revealed he was targeted by an impersonation scheme tied to investment fraud, publicly raised the issue of “fake news” on behalf of individual investors.

On the 18th, Jang spoke as a retail investor at the “Capital Market Stabilization and Normalization Meeting” held at the Blue House and presided over by President Lee Jae-myung. “I believe I’m here representing the public,” he said, adding, “As a citizen and an individual investor, the ‘realm of trust’ in the market that the government and experts talk about is crucial.”

“Many individual investors feel, ‘When I buy, it drops; when I sell, it rises.’ Experts say the market is solid, but actual investors get heavily swayed by fake news,” he continued. “People often get information through YouTube and other online channels, and it’s hard to know what to believe and how far to trust it. The government and experts need to present market direction and credibility more clearly.”

Jang has said he personally experienced “fake information” harm before. In 2024, he publicly warned about an investment scam that impersonated him: “There are bad people trying to use my name to scam you. Don’t be fooled.” At the time, online ads posing as Jang spread, raising concerns about potential victims.
