Actors Kim Nam-gil and Lee Youmi will star in SBS’s new drama ‘Nightmare’ (literal title), set to air next year.

‘Nightmare’ (written by Kim Kyu-won, directed by Lee Dan) follows a vigilante team that traps evildoers―people the law can’t punish―not in prison, but inside their own nightmares. It’s a high-concept thriller where justice blurs the line between dreams and reality.

Kim Nam-gil plays Detective Kim Tae-i. After years undercover, he returns to the Southern Precinct a changed man―his tone, habits, and lifestyle are all different. But his obsession with catching criminals hasn’t gone anywhere. With razor-sharp instincts and a feral edge, he teams up with the nightmare designers to hunt down the worst of the worst. Given his range from the dark procedural Through the Darkness to the punchy action of The Fiery Priest series, fans are curious to see his spin on Kim Tae-i.

Lee Youmi plays Jang Gyu-eun, a victim-dedicated officer at the same precinct. She’s shy and reserved in real life―but inside dreams, she flips 180 degrees. She appears in the nightmares of unpunished villains with a chilling, decadent presence, inflicting unbearable pain. As a mysterious nightmare architect whose real-life persona clashes with her dream-world alter ego, Lee is set to deliver a striking duality―bouncing from a sweet smile to a lethal gaze.

‘Nightmare’ charts how Detective Kim Tae-i―more dangerous than any gangster―and nightmare architect Jang Gyu-eun join forces to make slippery criminals truly pay. They lock those who mock the law inside an inescapable prison of nightmares, a personal hell they can’t wake up from.

All eyes are also on the chemistry between Kim Nam-gil, a trusted lead who commands any genre, and Lee Youmi, who proved her talent as the first Korean actor to win an Emmy in the Guest Actress category. Fans are eager to see the synergy they bring as partners in ‘Nightmare.’

The production team shared, “With the unique premise of punishing major offenders―too big for real prisons―through nightmares, we want to sound an alarm for those who escape consequences. Please look forward to the immersive teamwork of Kim Nam-gil and Lee Youmi as a detective and a nightmare architect.”
