With just three days left until the 98th Academy Awards, last-minute prep is in full swing―and a terrorism alert has been issued.
According to the New York Times on the 11th (local time), California Governor Gavin Newsom recently received a warning from the FBI to prepare for the possibility of an Iranian retaliatory attack.
The FBI has reportedly shared intelligence with state officials and law enforcement that Iran could launch drones toward the U.S. West Coast. No specific timing or targets have been identified.
Amid these concerns, the Los Angeles area has activated its highest-level security posture. With the Oscars just days away, organizers are doubling down on safety measures.
Executive producer Raj Kapoor said, “We have a best-in-class security team” and noted they are working closely with the FBI and the Los Angeles Police Department.
Korean fans are especially tuned in this year. Netflix’s breakout animated film "KPop Demon Hunters" is nominated in two categories: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.
A live performance of the nominated track "Golden" is also set. EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami―the vocalists behind in-universe group HUNTR/X―will take the stage to perform "Golden." The number is expected to open with a fusion of traditional Korean instruments and dance, spotlighting the film’s cultural roots.
Iranian auteur Jafar Panahi is also expected to attend this year’s ceremony. His film "It Was Just an Accident," which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes last year, is nominated for International Feature Film at the Oscars.
The 98th Academy Awards will take place on the 15th (local time) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
