SBS’s "Curious Stories Y" digs into a chilling case: a body allegedly abandoned along the Dumulmeori riverside in Yangpyeong.

The March 13 episode investigates the truth behind a killing between friends and the subsequent disposal of a body.

That day, something about her son Geon-woo’s voice nagged at his mother, Gyeong-im. A few days later, a check-in text on KakaoTalk momentarily eased her mind―but then he stopped replying again. She finally set out to find him. Around the same time, others were worried too: his co-workers. They had tried to reach him after he showed up to work days earlier with a bloodied face, but they couldn’t get through. What happened to Geon-woo, who had been diligently working delivery jobs and planning for the future?

After a missing-person report was filed, police tracking Geon-woo’s phone noticed something suspicious: another device kept pinging from the exact same locations. It belonged to his best friend, Dong-gyu (alias). Under police questioning, he confessed―saying he killed Geon-woo in a fit of anger and abandoned the body near the Dumulmeori riverside in Yangpyeong.

But his actions after the crime raise new questions. Days later, he used the victim’s phone to message Geon-woo’s mother on KakaoTalk: “I’m planning to go overseas with a friend for work.” The text she had clung to was actually sent by the perpetrator, pretending to be her son.

The alleged dump site is puzzling, too. At the time, temperatures hovered around minus 10 degrees Celsius, leaving the river covered in thick ice. An expert questions how a body could be disposed of under those conditions.

To this day, no body has been found. Some now suspect a calculated crime designed to be a “murder without a body.”

According to co-workers, Dong-gyu often treated Geon-woo harshly, like a subordinate. They say Geon-woo frequently had bruises on his face―raising doubts about whether there was another motive at play. What really happened between the two that day?

"Curious Stories Y" follows the trail of the alleged body disposal at Yangpyeong’s Dumulmeori riverside on Friday at 8:50 p.m.
