SBS’ "Unanswered Questions" investigates the hidden truth behind a wife who suddenly collapsed from a brain hemorrhage and later died.
The March 14 episode, titled “The Wife’s Final Voice File ― The Truth of That Night in 1 Hour and 45 Minutes,” digs into the case.
At dawn on January 24, a husband got a call from police: his wife, Kim Ji-hyun (alias), who lived apart as a weekend couple, had been rushed to the hospital. When he arrived, she was unconscious. Her face was severely swollen, and bruises were visible across her body.
Just two days earlier, when they were together, Ji-hyun had seemed healthy. Within 48 hours, she was found with a serious brain hemorrhage. Three days after she was hospitalized, she died at age 40. What happened in that window of time?
Around 3:30 a.m. that night, paramedics responded to an apartment building and headed to Ji-hyun’s unit on the second floor. With her was the 119 caller: a neighbor surnamed Lee from the fifth floor. He introduced himself as “a younger acquaintance” and said he called because she appeared unresponsive.
Lee told responders that he and Ji-hyun had been drinking at his place on the fifth floor the previous evening. He claimed she stepped out, felt dizzy, fell backward, and hit her head on the floor. He said she then returned to her own second-floor home, where he found signs suggesting a brain hemorrhage and called for help.
A CCTV camera was installed above the entrance to Ji-hyun’s apartment. Around 1:30 a.m., the camera captured Ji-hyun returning home looking swollen and in bad shape. But it did not capture Lee. How did he enter her home and make the call without appearing on camera?
Police grew suspicious that Lee may have assaulted Ji-hyun and arrested him on the spot. When they analyzed his phone, they found an audio file recorded by Lee on the day of the incident. What chilling details are hidden in the 1 hour and 45 minute recording?
