J.Y. Park, the singer-producer who founded JYP Entertainment, will step down from his position as an internal director on the company’s board.

On the 10th, JYP Entertainment said, “J.Y. Park will not seek reappointment as an inside director at the shareholders’ meeting on the 26th.” The company added, “Going forward, J.Y. Park plans to focus on creative activities as an artist, mentoring junior artists, and new external initiatives for the K-pop industry.”

J.Y. Park debuted in 1994 and has been active as a singer, songwriter, and producer, building influence within K-pop. He founded JYP Entertainment in 1997 and has served as a board director since 2011.

The company did not disclose specific reasons for the move. However, there is speculation he may concentrate further on his work with the Committee for Popular Culture Exchange, where he has served as co-chair since last year.

Affiliated with the Office of the President, the Committee for Popular Culture Exchange launched last October to set a national vision for popular-culture policy and strengthen the cultural industry through public-private cooperation. J.Y. Park serves as the civilian co-chair of the committee.

He will continue serving as JYP’s chief creative officer.
