Actor Nana (34) shared, in her own words, what happened during the home invasion at her residence.
Appearing on Shin Dong-yup’s YouTube channel “Zzanbro,” released on March 9, Nana opened up about the break-in that took place at her home last year and spoke candidly about the moment and her relationship with her mother.
Shin said, “I saw the news. I read that you fought off the intruder. First, I was so relieved you weren’t hurt. Second, I thought it was incredible,” referring to the incident last November when a man in his 30s broke into her home.
Nana replied, “I was with my mom, and I think I kind of lost it because of her. Parents go crazy for their kids, but kids also go crazy for their parents. In that sense, I’m grateful things turned out the way they did.” She added, “During the incident, my mom briefly fainted from the shock. She told me she didn’t scream loudly because she was afraid I might come out of my room and get hurt. Hearing that, I could feel how terrified she must have been.”
Nana, who saw her mom’s life in danger, recalled, “My mom was in the living room, and I was asleep in my room. The rooms are a bit apart, so I couldn’t hear much, but by some miracle I woke up to a small sound she made.” She continued, “She said she kept quiet so she wouldn’t wake me, worried I’d get hurt if I came out. When I saw her in danger, my mind went blank and I had a burst of strength. It felt like the moment lasted forever, but in reality it was just a split second.”
When asked, “People say you’re a 4th-dan in a special forces-style martial art―is that true?” Nana clarified, “I’ve never learned martial arts.” While some framed it as if she subdued the intruder with combat skills, she explained, “All I had was the instinct that my mom was in danger, and I think that’s where the superhuman strength came from. At first, I didn’t expect there to be a weapon at all. I only realized when I saw the weapon on the floor and reacted on instinct to defend. Sometimes I wonder if I would’ve had the same courage if there hadn’t been a weapon.”
Nana is known to be an only child. On “Zzanbro,” she shared that in a difficult period she got tattoos to focus on that pain and clear her mind, but has since had most of them removed. “I kept just one―the numbers of the year my mom was born,” she said.
The man in his 30s, identified as A, who entered Nana’s home with a weapon and was arrested, is on trial for robbery causing injury. During the incident, Nana’s mother was choked and briefly lost consciousness but later recovered. A later filed a complaint against Nana, but police recognized her actions as self-defense and cleared her of any charges. Nana’s side has responded by accusing A of false accusation.
