Actor Park Bo-gum has confirmed his role in director Kim Han-min’s new film, “The Sword: Rebirth of the Red Wolf,” and began filming on March 3.
“The Sword: Rebirth of the Red Wolf” is a blockbuster action period drama set right after the fall of Goguryeo. The story follows a man who has lost his memory and become a slave. He jumps into a gladiator tournament where a legendary sword is on the line. The film officially cranked in on March 3. Led by director Kim Han-min, the cast and crew gathered for an “activity reading,” aligning lines and action beats together before cameras rolled.
Unlike a standard table read, the activity reading played like a rehearsal that fused action and dialogue. The actors fully immersed themselves in their characters, trading lines and choreography with high intensity to instantly raise the stakes of the sweeping narrative.
Park Bo-gum takes on a bold transformation as Chilseong, a warrior who has lost his memory. Thrown into a slave gladiator arena after Goguryeo’s collapse, Chilseong survives without knowing his past. Even in extreme conditions, he’s set to showcase unshakable focus and overwhelming sword combat that reveal a new side of him.
Joo Won plays Gaepilharyeok, Chilseong’s rival. Representing the Turkic side in an allied gladiator tournament, Gaepilharyeok is a cold, formidable fighter. Expect complex twin-sword action and blazing charisma. Jung Jae-young portrays Heuksugang, the leader of the Goguryeo Restoration Army (Damul Army), anchoring the chaos as a steadying leader. Lee Sun-bin appears as Maya, a member of the restoration army, bringing grit and action to the role.
Vietnamese star Trấn Thành appears as Seol In-gwi, the Grand Protector of the Andong Protectorate of Tang, projecting weighty charisma as he steers northern affairs. After standing out in the film "Exhuma," Kim Jae-chul plays Yaryul, a Khitan strategist known for cool-headed judgment.
Choi Gwi-hwa, who consistently delivers career-defining roles, leaves a strong impression as Daehajin-chung, the great chieftain of the Khitan. Park Myung-hoon, who made a mark in "Parasite," takes on the role of Poongsa, a former gatekeeper of Liaodong Fortress. Lee Soon-won plays Jeok In-geol, Seol In-gwi’s strategist who oversees the entire gladiator tournament.
“The Sword: Rebirth of the Red Wolf” is targeting a 2027 release and is preparing to meet audiences not only in Korea but also in Japan, Vietnam, and beyond.
