SBS’s ‘Curious Stories Y’ is digging into a string of deaths at motels in Gangbuk-gu.
Airing on the 20th, ‘Curious Stories Y’ looks into the case of a woman, identified by her surname Kim, who is accused of handing drugged drinks to two men, leading to their deaths.
For taxi driver Se-yoon (alias), that night is hard to forget. On the 9th, in the familiar neighborhood of Suyu-dong, he picked up a strange fare. A woman was waiting alone outside a motel late at night. Once in the cab, she kept urging him to hurry, which struck him as odd. The passenger turned out to be Kim ― the suspect at the center of the so-called “Gangbuk Motel Serial Deaths.” “It was only about 2 kilometers, but she acted like someone was chasing her. That’s why it stuck with me,” he recalled.
Every man who entered a motel with Kim ended up dead. In two separate motels in Suyu-dong, men in their 20s were found dead on January 29 and February 10. Two details link the cases: each victim went to a motel alone with Kim and drank a “mystery beverage” she gave them. Tests reportedly found high levels of benzodiazepines ― a type of tranquilizer ― in the drinks. Why was Kim giving these men drinks in the first place?
There may have been a similar incident earlier. In mid-December last year, a man who visited a cafe in Namyangju with Kim suddenly collapsed. The cafe owner said, “One customer drank a beverage and collapsed. He had a mojito, so I thought it might be the alcohol.” The man was rushed to a hospital and survived. It later emerged that he, too, had drunk a beverage from Kim before entering the cafe.
In police questioning, Kim admitted she handed over drugged drinks but claimed she did not expect the victims to die. Is she telling the truth?
Just as the case seemed to hit a dead end, the ‘Curious Stories Y’ team managed to contact a man who says he once met Kim. What will he reveal?
