‘Phantom Lawyer’ has dropped its first teaser, kicking off the wild “han-release” adventure of a problem-solver attorney played by Yoo Yeon-seok.
Premiering Friday, March 13, SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama Phantom Lawyer (directed by Shin Joong-hoon, written by Kim Ga-young and Kang Cheol-gyu) follows “possessed lawyer” Shin I-rang (Yoo Yeon-seok), who helps vengeful spirits release their unresolved grudges, and “cold-blooded elite lawyer” Han Na-hyun (Esom), who puts everything on the line to win. Blending fantasy with courtroom drama, it promises refreshing payback, sharp humor, human warmth, and chilling tension―poised to carry on SBS’s streak of addictive legal series.
Top of mind is Yoo Yeon-seok’s “possessed” performance as Shin I-rang, a lawyer who can be taken over by all kinds of unusual clients. The first teaser, released on the 13th, opens with Yoo delivering what fans are already calling “Academy-level” acting.
“With that line, ‘Do you still see me as a lawyer?,’ Shin I-rang breaks the mold―and the courtroom. He swings from gruff ahjussi vibes to the expressions and gestures of a girl or a child in a heartbeat. Each new spirit possession flips his tone and emotions, shaking the entire mood of the scene. Onlookers can’t hide their shock, muttering, “What is up with this weirdo?”
The man turning the Seocho-dong legal world upside down is Shin I-rang, a “possessed lawyer” who resolves the grudges of ghosts. After opening his law office in Room 501 of the Okcheon Building―formerly a shaman’s house―he starts seeing spirits. “Sometimes I kind of lose my grip,” he admits, unwillingly standing on the line between reality and the unseen spiritual realm.
Then a fierce partner steps in: Han Na-hyun, a cold-blooded elite lawyer who doesn’t believe in ghosts. Known as “No. 1 in the industry for relentless pursuit, no matter what it takes,” Han Na-hyun is a 100% win-rate purist who only moves for victory. Naturally, Shin I-rang’s spirit-led approach makes zero sense to her.
But as stranger cases pile up, a shift begins: “We can’t just leave Shin to fight alone. I’ll help now,” she says. She didn’t budge at Shin I-rang’s playful winks and flirting before, yet a subtle pink-tinted spark now flickers between them. How will the hyper-rational, law-first Han Na-hyun end up joining hands with Shin I-rang?
Cranking up the tension is Yang Do-kyung (Kim Kyung Nam), a law firm head who takes direct aim at Shin I-rang and Han Na-hyun. He rattles the balance of power around their cases, pressing them hard: “So you want a fight? Let’s see how long you last.” As threats against Shin I-rang escalate, a shocking moment―a dump truck crash―plunges everything into chaos.
A possessed lawyer, a cold-blooded partner, and the dangerous rival targeting them. Characters from different worlds collide at the heart of the Seocho-dong legal scene, opening an unpredictable “han-release” adventure. Will Shin I-rang and Han Na-hyun truly end up on the same side? Where will this whirlwind of cases lead? And in that final scene―“Counsel, want to stay with me?”―will their bond tip into a full-on, fated romance? Curiosity is officially on high alert.
SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama "Phantom Lawyer" premieres Friday, March 13, at 9:50 p.m.
