Amutdda Band, a group breaking the usual genre and field boundaries, has thrown its hat into the K-pop ring. Actor Cha Tae-hyun, who joined as a guest vocalist, said he felt “dazed.”
At the debut album showcase held the afternoon of the 12th at a theater in Daehakro, Dongsoong-dong, Seoul, Cha looked out at a venue packed with more than 100 reporters and said with a laugh, “I kept thinking, ‘What is going on?’ I didn’t expect this many people. I’m so curious―why did you all come?” He added, “I’m here almost by accident, but I’m grateful that this led to Amutdda Band releasing music. We’re not idols, so this turnout is surprising.”
Comedian Kim Jun-hyun, who plays drums, said, “I feel unbelievably good. Even new show press conferences don’t draw this many people. I’m deeply moved by all the attention.”
Amutdda Band came together thanks to singer Hong Kyung-min’s strong push. Leader Hong said, “Personally, the last time I saw this many reporters was the day I was discharged from the military. It’s a feeling I don’t usually get. Back when I was an amateur playing gigs, I had this excited, indescribable feeling―and that’s exactly how it is now. I feel lucky to have met such great members and to have this unexpected blessing.”
Jo Young-soo also took the stage not as a composer, but as the keyboardist. “I’ve been in bands since high school,” he shared. “I’ve mostly focused on composing, but when my passion for music started to fade, this brought back the same drive I had when I wanted to get into college for music. I’m incredibly happy.”
The debut track, “You Know It,” blends stadium pop with rock for a love serenade. It’s about sprinting to confess your feelings, and a heart that doesn’t stop even when the end isn’t clear. Composed by Jo Young-soo, with Amutdda Band members contributing lyrics, the song captures the rawest, most honest moments in front of love.
Amutdda Band’s first debut album, “You Know It,” drops on the 13th at 6 p.m.
