Kim Hye-yoon is back in full rom-com mode―this time as an irresistibly charming nine-tailed fox.
SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama “No Tail to Tell” needed just two episodes to break out beyond Korea. It debuted at No. 1 on Good Data Corporation’s FUNdex for TV drama buzz (week of Jan. 13) and cracked No. 6 on FlixPatrol’s Netflix TV Shows Top 10 (as of Jan. 18), signaling a fast-rising global hit.
Kim also landed at No. 4 on the drama performer buzz chart, reflecting surging interest. As Eun-ho―a Gen Z gumiho who has zero interest in becoming human―she unveils a playful new side that was worth the 20-month wait. She makes a prickly-yet-adorable heroine feel both magnetic and believable, gliding between past and present, reality and fantasy, and anchoring a 900-year backstory with effortless charm.
Her chemistry, as always, does the heavy lifting. Paired with Lomon, Kim fires off quick, witty banter that’s already drawing raves. On screen, Eun-ho and Kang Si-yeol (played by Lomon) start out as textbook enemies―her “prophecies” sound a lot like curses, and their first meeting is all sparks and squabbling. Toss Hyun Woo-seok (Jang Dong-ju) into the mix, and the friction only grows. The big question: Can this “hate-to-fate” pairing turn into each other’s salvation? Kim and Lomon’s offbeat rom-com chemistry is already giving viewers butterflies.
In last week’s episode, Eun-ho and Si-yeol reunite after nine years. Following Hyun Woo-seok’s injury, Si-yeol is tapped as a replacement for the youth national team and rockets into a “world-class” career with a major overseas club. Woo-seok, meanwhile, is cut from Korea’s fourth division and seemingly out of the game. Then the two stumble on Eun-ho’s wish business card―and in a heartbeat, their fortunes flip, setting up a tantalizing mystery about who wished for what and why.
