Actors Yoo Jae-myung, Lee Si-eon and Oh Dal-su have been cast in director Kwak Kyung-taek’s new feature "My Dad, the Zombie" (literal title).
"My Dad, the Zombie" follows a veteran background actor whose specialty is playing zombies ― and whose biggest role yet might be “Dad.” Determined to protect his young son’s wonder, he keeps the performance going even after the cameras stop, kicking off a scrappy, laugh-through-the-tears survival comedy about one underdog’s all-or-nothing mission.
The film puts a spirited, offbeat spin on a father’s quest to become a “real” hero, spotlighting the unglamorous grind of bit-part actors and the unshakable love that keeps their families together. Yoo Jae-myung leads as Sung-joon, a onetime dancer-turned-stunt-savvy extra who devastates on screen as a zombie but melts at home as a soft-hearted dad. When life throws a curveball, he vows to prove to his son that “Dad doesn’t die,” turning that promise into the role of a lifetime.
Lee Si-eon co-stars as Oh Sung-joon ― a marquee name who shares Sung-joon’s name but not his circumstances ― adding tension and texture as their worlds collide. Oh Dal-su plays Hong-do, Sung-joon’s blunt-but-loyal right hand who keeps him grounded.
Sun Kim ― an English instructor and popular history storyteller known from TV lecture programs ― makes his big-screen debut as on-set taskmaster Director Yuk. Rounding out the ensemble, Park Soo-young appears as a fellow journeyman actor, embodying the tight-knit camaraderie of the industry’s unsung strivers.
The project reunites audiences with Kwak Kyung-taek, a master of humanist storytelling behind "Friend," "The Firefighters" and "The Classified File," who is co-directing and backing debut filmmaker Kang Min-woo. Industry watchers are eager to see how Kwak’s seasoned touch meshes with Kang’s fresh vision.
"My Dad, the Zombie" is currently filming and is slated to hit theaters in 2026.
