Kim Yoo-jung, Park Ji-hwan and Cho Yeo-jeong are joining forces for the film "Vengeful Spirit" (working title).
"Vengeful Spirit" centers on Yoon-ha, a woman who dies in a freak accident and returns as a ghost. Teaming up with a goblin who has spent 400 years longing to become human, she embarks on a perilous mission to save her younger sibling.
The new feature comes from director Hong Eui-jeong, who drew raves for his debut "Voice of Silence," earning best new director accolades at the Blue Dragon Film Awards and the Baeksang Arts Awards. The cast is locked, and cameras started rolling on Nov. 17.
Kim Yoo-jung steps into the role of Yoon-ha, a restless spirit who refuses to move on until she can protect her kid sister, signaling a bold transformation for the 20-something standout.
Park Ji-hwan plays the goblin who’s dreamed of becoming human for four centuries. After Yoon-ha breaks his seal, the unlikely duo sparks an unexpected comedic―and emotional―chemistry.
Joining them is Cho Yeo-jeong as Joo-bo, a shaman doggedly pursuing Yoon-ha. As a conduit between the living and the dead, her fierce presence injects tension and urgency into the chase.
Rounding out the ensemble are Ji Il-joo; Yoo Jae-myung, reuniting with Hong after "Voice of Silence;" and multihyphenate Baek Hyun-jin, active across music, acting, fine art.
Solaire Partners―a cultural-content investment firm with 145.5 billion won in assets under management and a track record backing commercial hits like "12.12: The Day" and "Exhuma"―is serving as lead investor on "Vengeful Spirit." KT Studio Genie, which recently announced an aggressive push into film, will co-present, distribute and handle marketing, marking its first fully in-house original project.
Starting with "Vengeful Spirit", KT Studio Genie plans to scout fresh, high-concept theatrical projects and leverage its expansive rights library to build out a business spanning investment, distribution and downstream platforms.
With Kim as a determined ghost, Park as a centuries-old goblin and Cho as a formidable shaman, Hong Eui-jeong’s fantasy occult comedy promises both thrills and heart. Principal photography began Nov. 17 and is now underway.
