Rumors of a comeback for actor Yoo Ah-in ― who received a suspended sentence in a drug case ― are bubbling up again.
On the 17th, several outlets reported that Yoo is in talks to star in director Jang Jae-hyun’s next feature, tentatively titled “Vampyr,” which would mark his first screen role in about three years. The occult project centers on vampires and is said to expand the universe Jang established with "Exhuma."
Per those reports, the film is in script development with production eyed for the second half of next year. If Yoo signs on, it would be his first official project since the controversy.
But both sides are tapping the brakes. His agency UAA said, “Nothing has been decided regarding casting.” Jang, for his part, told local media, “We’re still in the writing stage ― it’s not the time to discuss casting,” adding, “As far as I know, Yoo is lying low and has been turning down offers.”
Yoo was indicted for habitual use of propofol between 2020 and 2022 and for illegally obtaining prescription sleep aids under other people’s names.
Last September, a lower court sentenced him to one year in prison and he was taken into custody. The Supreme Court later finalized a suspended sentence: one year in prison, suspended for two years, plus a 2 million won fine.
