FTISLAND’s Lee Hong-gi kicked off the musical 'Sugar' with an enthusiastic first performance.

On Dec. 16 at the KEPCO Art Center in Seoul, Lee stepped into the role of Joe (aka Josephine) for his debut outing in the production.

Based on the beloved classic 'Some Like It Hot,' 'Sugar' is set in the Prohibition era of 1929. After two jazz musicians witness a mob hit, they disguise themselves as women and slip into an all-female band, setting off a cascade of madcap hijinks.

Lee’s Joe ― a romantic saxophonist who goes undercover in drag to stay alive ― pairs quick wit with disarming, unexpected charm. Leaning on years of stage experience, he commanded the stage with assured acting and powerhouse vocals. Taking on a cross-dressing role for the first time in his career, Lee delivered a sly yet finely tuned performance that drew roaring applause.

The singer-actor has shown range in productions including 'The Days,' 'I Loved You,' 'Return,' 'Jack the Ripper,' 'Mata Hari,' 'Harlan County,' and 'Your Lie in April.' With 'Sugar,' he’s set for another standout transformation that’s primed to win over audiences.

'Sugar' runs at the KEPCO Art Center through Feb. 22.
