Cho Sae-ho has flatly denied allegations linking him to organized crime and announced he’s stepping away from his shows. Now, the original whistleblower says they “respect” his decision.

On Dec. 9, the anonymous social media user who first raised the claims said they’d read Cho’s statement and wrote that while Cho may feel parts of the chatter are unfair, “as a public figure who’s long enjoyed the public’s support, even greater care and judgment are required.”

The account initially alleged Cho knew an alleged organized-crime figure surnamed Choi―who is under investigation for illegal gambling and money laundering―and claimed Cho received pricey gifts and socialized with him at nightlife venues. Cho’s side pushed back immediately, saying there were no quid pro quo gifts or inappropriate ties, and vowed a firm legal response to restore his reputation.

The whistleblower added they hold no personal grudge against Cho and that multiple tips and materials came in during the vetting process, which prompted serious deliberation. As for Cho’s voluntary exit from "You Quiz on the Block" and "2 Days & 1 Night," they said it “couldn’t have been an easy choice” and offered “respect and applause” for the move.

They went on to say they hope Cho returns “more mature,” adding, “We’d like to see him earn back the public’s trust with a positive example.”

Referencing Cho’s line about correcting inaccuracies “through due process,” the whistleblower noted they’ve organized and retained various materials and, should legal proceedings move forward, will review them only as necessary. They also said that, seeing Cho’s stance and willingness to take responsibility, they plan to keep related materials private to avoid unnecessary conflict.

Earlier, Cho posted a lengthy note on social media, acknowledging that images circulating online “were disappointing” but insisting the allegations are false. He said he offered to step down so his programs wouldn’t be burdened, adding that while he’s tried to become a better person since starting a family, he recognizes his shortcomings. He signaled potential legal action, saying he intends to address inaccuracies through the proper procedures.
