Who was safe from the final penalty? The Dec. 7 episode of SBS’s "Running Man" turned a seaside getaway in Tongyeong into a cutthroat dawn dash.
The cast faced a wake-up challenge: only the first two to hop into the breakfast run van would dodge the last penalty.
Members were up before sunrise to stake out the parking lot. Roommates Yang Se-chan, Song Ji-hyo and Ji Ye-eun were already awake before 5 a.m., unable to sleep thanks to Ji Seok-jin’s rowdy sleep habits.
Soon after, HAHA and Kim Jong-kook showed up, upping the competition. With her odds tanking, Ji Ye-eun begged, “Please help me just this once, sunbae,” even faking tears as she joked, “Could you use your strength to block for me?” drawing big laughs.
A freshly showered Yoo Jae-suk and a bleary-eyed Choi Daniel then joined the fray, making the standoff even tighter.
Regret set in fast. “We should’ve done what Seok-jin did. Sleeping was the move,” the cast groaned, even floating the idea of drawing lots.
Producers stepped in with new ground rules: everyone had to wait inside; if you stepped out and the van wasn’t there, you were immediately out. On top of the two immunity spots, one extra person would get their penalty odds reduced.
Back to their rooms they went, playing mind games. In the meantime, late risers Ji Seok-jin and Heo Kyung-hwan finally woke up and prepped for the sprint.
HAHA made the first move, darting outside―only to be eliminated when no van was in sight. Yoo Jae-suk, who could see the parking lot from his room, waited for the perfect moment, then bolted and secured the first seat as soon as the van appeared.
Second place was the shocker: Ji Seok-jin, fresh off a deep sleep, slid in next. Choi Daniel nabbed third by a hair. Hearing the result, the “sleepless victims” who’d suffered through Seok-jin’s snoring cracked up in disbelief, while Yoo Jae-suk quipped, “How is your luck so good?”
The day’s penalty? Shucking 20 kilograms of Tongyeong’s famed oysters for the crew before heading home. After a roulette spin, HAHA, Ji Ye-eun, Song Ji-hyo and Heo Kyung-hwan were tapped for the task, to collective groans.
