Lee Hanee spotlighted what to watch for in “The People Upstairs.”
At a press screening and Q&A held at Megabox COEX in Seoul on the 25th, Lee said, “You’ll notice it’s essentially a closed-set piece. We shot for about a month without seeing sunlight. There aren’t big CG swings or flashy edits―this one lives on the cast’s energy, harmony, and the texture of the dialogue. We prepped with real agility and focus. I hope audiences keep an eye on that.”
“The People Upstairs” kicks off after nights of provocative between-floor noise push an upstairs couple (Ha Jung-woo and Lee Hanee) and the downstairs pair (Kong Hyo-jin and Kim Dong-wook) into a single, uneasy dinner―where anything can happen. Lee plays Soo-kyung, a physician who makes the downstairs couple a wildly unexpected proposal.
Lee also shared that she learned she was expecting her second child during production, yet still powered through a yoga sequence on set.
Kong said, “Early in the shoot, Hanee told me she had a baby in her belly. She asked me to keep it a secret, so I’ve been keeping it to myself since then. She kept acting so diligently while holding back her morning sickness at the dining table, and she never once frowned. I remember being amazed, thinking, ‘The early stages of pregnancy are supposed to be tough—how is she pulling this off?’ Hanee must have had the hardest time this time around. I was really impressed by her boundless positivity.”
The film opens December 3 in Korea.
