Comedian Kim Soo-yong, 59, is recovering after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest during a YouTube shoot ― and surviving thanks to CPR.
On March 13 in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, Kim complained of chest pain before losing consciousness on set. Colleagues and staff called emergency services and began CPR immediately. He reportedly regained consciousness in the ambulance en route to the hospital.
Speaking to Star News on March 18, Kim said, “I was out for about 20 minutes while they performed CPR. I ended up with cracked ribs, but my doctor called it a ‘miracle’ that I have no brain damage or paralysis.”
Diagnosed with an acute myocardial infarction, Kim underwent a procedure to open a narrowed artery. His agency, Media Lab Seesaw, said he has regained consciousness and is resting as he continues to recover, adding that they will work closely with medical staff to support his health.
Kim debuted in 1991 as part of KBS’s seventh class of comedians and has recently been active on YouTube through channels including “Jodongari” and “Kkokkomun.”
