Jang Ki-yong, long crowned a romance maestro, is back with SBS’s new rom-com “Dynamic Kiss”.
The series premiered November 12, and from its fizzy, feel-good tone to a pulse-spiking kiss in the final seconds, Episode 1 delivered a dopamine rush to living rooms. At the center is Jang, returning sharper, funnier and even more magnetic as Gong Ji-hyeok. The drama is written by Ha Yoon-ah and Tae Kyung-min and directed by Kim Jae-hyun and Kim Hyun-woo.
Gong Ji-hyeok is the total package―ace at work, effortless visuals, the whole deal. He kicks off the episode by closing a high-stakes project in one shot. The one thing he refuses to entertain? Love. A true-love skeptic, he doesn’t blink at flirtation or even a family-pushed arranged match.
A business trip to Jeju flips his world when he collides with Go Da-rim (Ahn Eun-jin). She back-hugs him out of nowhere telling him not to die, then, to save face in front of an ex, breezily introduces Ji-hyeok as “my boyfriend.” Though their first encounter is a mess, Ji-hyeok agrees to a pretend relationship to serve his own goals.
He initially thinks, “Who is this woman?”―but can’t help smiling as Da-rim rushes to help anyone who needs it. Then comes her natural-disaster-level kiss that detonates like dynamite in his head. As she walks away, Ji-hyeok pulls her back for a second kiss―an ending that sent hearts racing on screen and at home.
True to his “romance king” reputation, Jang Ki-yong layers tender intensity into Ji-hyeok with soulful eyes, a rich baritone that commands attention, and a signature, nuanced performance. He nails the buoyant rhythm and sly comic beats, leaving zero dead air. The essential rom-com ingredients―spark with his co-star and leading-man visuals―are firmly in place.
In short, Jang Ki-yong is back―sleeker, funnier and primed to make viewers swoon. If Episode 1 triggered a full-on kiss alert, we can’t wait to see how much higher he turns up the heat next.
Episode 2 of SBS’s “Dynamic Kiss” airs Thursday, November 13 at 9 p.m. KST.
