Kim Geum-soon took home Best Supporting Actress at the 45th Korean Association of Film Critics Awards.
As the association revealed its winners and annual Top 10, the supporting actress honor went to Kim for her powerhouse turn in the crime action film 'Yadang.'
Released in April, 'Yadang' tracks a broker who engineers Korea’s narcotics trade, a prosecutor hungry to climb higher, and a cop who stakes everything to bring the operation down. The film drew 3.37 million admissions at the Korean box office.
On screen, Kim commands as Kim Hak-nam, the head of a large-scale drug smuggling ring, ratcheting up the tension with a grounded, magnetic presence. Her meticulous character work―crisp line delivery and finely tuned pacing―makes the role unforgettable.
From indie gems to commercial features and TV, Kim has steadily built a versatile resume with JTBC’s 'The Atypical Family,' Netflix’s 'Squid Game Season 2,' and Netflix’s 'When Life Gives You Tangerines,' where she drew buzz as Je-ni’s on-screen mom, Mi-hyang. In May, she also won New Actress (Film) at the 23rd Directors Cut Awards for 'Star of Ulsan,' and this Critics prize further cements her momentum.
