Jung Ryeo-won is officially back on the big screen―and she’s savoring every second of it after seven years away from films.
Speaking at a press screening and production presentation for "The Woman in the White Car" at CGV Yongsan in Seoul on the afternoon of the 27th, the actress said, “It’s been a while since I greeted audiences in theaters. Having it finally open feels like a little bonus.”
According to director Go Hye-jin, "The Woman in the White Car" was shot in just 14 days in 2022, during the height of the COVID era.
With the film now moving from the festival circuit to a proper theatrical run, both the director and cast were visibly moved. “For a long time, the film world felt far away from me,” Jung admitted. “Getting this chance made me realize that if you keep wanting something, it can happen.”
"The Woman in the White Car" is a suspense thriller that follows Do-kyung (Jung), who rushes her bloodied sister to the hospital and gives a muddled statement to police detective Hyun-ju (Lee Jung-eun). As conflicting memories of the culprit collide, the truth of that night comes into focus. Jung delivers a riveting turn as a novelist harboring dangerous secrets.
The film won Best International Feature at the 22nd San Diego International Film Festival and was officially invited to the Thrill strand at the 66th BFI London Film Festival. At the 26th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, it took home Watcha’s Feature Award, while Jung was honored with the Korean Fantastic Actor award―recognition for both the film’s craft and her performance.
"The Woman in the White Car" opens nationwide in Korea on Wednesday, October 29.
