SBS’ "Curious Stories Y" is tracking down the culprit behind a barrage of bogus delivery orders that threw a local boxing gym into chaos.
Ji-eun, who took over the gym from her father three years ago, was about to kick off a snack party with the kids on a rare off-day when a chicken delivery driver showed up. Thinking a parent might have sent a surprise treat, she lit up―until he asked for payment. Assuming it was a mix-up, she sent him away. Three minutes later, another courier arrived. Then another.
“The kids got scared really fast and the mood just crashed,” Ji-eun recalls. “As soon as I turned one driver away, another came right after.” In a matter of minutes, roughly 530,000 won worth of food was dispatched to the gym―none of it ordered. The hit wasn’t just emotional; local restaurant owners who prepped the meals also took a financial blow.
While following leads on the prankster, the "Curious Stories Y" team connected with someone living about 200 kilometers from Daejeon: a 17-year-old high school student. He admitted he’d answered a Telegram post recruiting minors for “part-time work” and, under instructions from an unknown figure, placed a flurry of delivery orders to the gym. But why target Ji-eun’s place?
A ramen shop owner who suffered losses offered one theory: “It felt malicious. Maybe someone chasing clout for YouTube or a livestream.” Ji-eun, who is active on social media as an influencer, wondered the same―was the stunt designed to get her attention?
She also flagged a detail that doesn’t sit right: the gym’s opening hours had recently shifted, yet the deliveries were perfectly timed to the new schedule. Was this a carefully planned hit by someone who knew the gym’s routine―or just a cruel prank that got disturbingly precise?
