Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il and Lee Min-ho are teaming up for director Hur Jin-ho’s new feature, "Assassin(s)" (literal title).
The film tracks the unanswered questions and shadowy forces behind South Korea’s Aug. 15, 1974 Liberation Day attack that took the life of First Lady Yuk Young-soo, reframing the case as a gripping investigative drama.
Yoo Hae-jin―whose hits include "Exhuma," "A Taxi Driver," "Veteran" and "The King and the Clown," all part of Korea’s coveted 10-million admissions club―plays a Jungbu Police Station inspector who witnessed the incident firsthand. With razor-sharp instincts and dogged resolve, he’s set to command the screen and drive the film’s tension.
Park Hae-il, known for standout turns in "Decision to Leave," "Hansan: Rising Dragon" and "The Fortress," reunites with Hur after "The Last Princess" as a newspaper’s metro desk editor who digs into the case’s lingering mysteries despite mounting pressure and risk.
Joining them, Lee Min-ho―whose credits include "Omniscient Reader," "The King: Eternal Monarch" and "Legend of the Blue Sea," along with a career-shifting performance in the "Pachinko" series―plays an ambitious rookie reporter on the metro desk who was at the scene.
Hur Jin-ho, celebrated for his elegant, cross-genre storytelling in films like "Forbidden Dream" and "The Last Princess," directs. Production is by Hive Media Corp., the company behind "Inside Men" and "12.12: The Day."
With an A-list trio and top-tier creatives, "Assassin(s)" has recently begun filming.
