Actor Choi Woo-shik has once again won over living rooms with a character you can’t help but adore.

Premiering Oct. 10 on SBS, the new Friday-Saturday rom-com “Would You Marry Me” (written by Lee Hana; directed by Song Hyun-wook and Hwang In-hyuk) follows a man and woman who enter a 90-day sham newlywed arrangement to hold on to a luxe newlywed-home giveaway. Following its debut, online chatter praised it as a “pitch-perfect, real-life rom-com,” signaling a strong start.

Choi plays Kim Woo-joo, the only son of confectionery institution Myungsundang. Calm and by-the-book on the surface, he’s drawn into an unexpected entanglement with Yoo Me-ri (Jung So-min) that spirals into a fake marriage. With finely tuned emotional beats and his signature gentle humor, Choi breathes real life into the role.

Across the first two episodes, he glides from everyday laughs to lingering emotion―whether it’s a sidewalk mishap, a tender moment at the hospital, or the madcap scramble to secure that prize―stacking grounded, realistic feelings that firmly establish the character’s opening arc.

From the rhythm of his line delivery to pinpoint facial timing and easy chemistry with his co-star, Choi is drawing reactions like “a master class in slice-of-life acting” and “the handbook for emotional comedy.” His Kim Woo-joo isn’t just there for jokes; even amid unpredictable chaos, he radiates disarming warmth, stoking curiosity about where his emotions will head next.

After the premiere, social feeds lit up with praise: “Choi Woo-shik’s comedic timing is unreal,” “His chemistry with Jung So-min is insane,” “So relatable and lovable,” and “No surprise―he’s magnetic again.” Through Kim Woo-joo, he stretches beyond his typically sunny image into deeper interior work, zeroing in on the genre’s emotional sweet spot.

Having carved out a distinct range across projects like "Parasite," "Our Beloved Summer," and "Melo Movie," Choi is once again charting the evolution of his sensibility-driven acting. As Kim Woo-joo steps into an unforeseen whirlwind of relationships, anticipation is high for the choices and turning points ahead―and for the new shades Choi will unveil along the way.

“Would You Marry Me” airs Fridays and Saturdays at 9:50 p.m. KST on SBS.
