Actress Kim Hee-sun, 49, is mourning the loss of her mother just days before Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving).
Her agency, Hinge Entertainment, confirmed on Oct. 2 that Kim’s mother, Park Bok-soon, passed away at the age of 86.
A memorial has been set up at Asan Medical Center’s funeral hall (Room 30) in Seoul, where the only child Kim is keeping vigil with her family. The funeral service is scheduled for Oct. 4.
“We ask for warm condolences so Kim Hee-sun and her family can grieve in peace,” the agency said in a statement.
Kim, who has spoken in past interviews about the deep, friend-like bond she shared with her mother, was raised as an only child and received abundant love. She previously lost her father in 2018 and now faces another heartbreaking farewell.
Kim married businessman Park Ju-young in 2007 and welcomed a daughter in 2009.
