Park Chan-wook stopped by SBS podcast "Kim Hye-ri’s Film Club" for a freewheeling conversation that stretched to a full two hours.
Launched in 2016, the cinephile-favorite series pairs critic Kim Hye-ri, actor Im Soo-jung, and SBS Radio PD Choi Da-eun, who trade deep dives on criticism, performance, and music. Beloved across fans and the industry, "Film Club" has hosted the likes of Bae Doona, Lee Jun-hyuk, and director Kim Jee-woon; this March, Bong Joon-ho dropped in to talk "Mickey 17," and in September, Park Jung-min appeared to discuss the film "The Ugly."
Park’s appearance came together through long-standing ties with the hosts. Im headlined his 2006 feature "I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK," while Kim has conducted in-depth Cine21 interviews with the director for every release. A composition major, Choi contributed interviews and commentary for the "Decision to Leave" soundtrack. Park would often tease Im and Kim by asking, "You still doing 'Film Club'?"
The special episode kept an easy, playful vibe for nearly 120 minutes. Park spoke candidly about the overseas response to "No Other Choice," what diverged from the source material, scenes left on the cutting-room floor, and on-set stories with Lee Byung-hun, Son Ye-jin, and Park Hee-soon. He also opened up about his listening habits, saying he hopes to weave works by Korean contemporary composers like Isang Yun and Unsuk Chin into a future project.
"It felt like sitting down to a meal and chatting with friends," Park said near the end of the recording.
The episode drops Thursday, Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. KST. "Film Club" is available on Apple Podcasts, SBS Gorilla Pod, and Spotify.
