Jung So-min is teasing a pitch-perfect turn in "Would You Marry Me".
Set to premiere Oct. 10 on SBS, the new Friday-Saturday rom-com "Would You Marry Me" (written by Lee Ha-na; directed by Song Hyun-wook and Hwang In-hyuk) follows two strangers who enter a 90-day sham newlywed arrangement to hang on to a luxury newlywed-home giveaway. With Choi Woo-shik as Kim Woo-joo and rom-com favorite Jung So-min leading the charge, expectations are high for a charming, high-energy pairing.
On Oct. 1, the production released a written Q&A with Jung, who plays a scrappy designer doing whatever it takes to get by―and her immersive prep instantly grabbed attention.
Returning to SBS 15 years after her debut in "Bad Guy," Jung said she signed on largely for director Song Hyun-wook and co-star Choi Woo-shik. “I’m a big fan of 'Another Miss Oh,' so I was curious to work with Director Song,” she shared, adding, “When I heard Choi Woo-shik―someone I’ve always wanted to team up with―was the male lead, I knew filming would be a blast.”
To capture her character’s offbeat charm, Jung threw herself into the details. “I wanted to look and feel completely new―inside and out,” she said. “I even wrote diary entries imagining moments that aren’t in the script, and I spent time in her hometown to really lock in the dialect.”
Jung also weighed in on her on-screen partners: fake husband Choi Woo-shik and ex-fiancé Seo Beom-jun. “From day one, our chemistry was better than I’d hoped,” she said of Choi. “He’s like an adorable, lovable puppy―he’s naturally funny and full of bounce, so I’m always cracking up around him.” As for Seo Beom-jun, she described him as “gentle, warm, and mature,” adding with a laugh, “He has an older sister and I have a younger brother, so we clicked fast. But my little brother isn’t nearly as angelic as Beom-jun.”
A proven rom-com draw, Jung emphasized that the genre lives or dies on chemistry. “The cast’s rhythm really makes or breaks a romantic comedy,” she said. “I always show up with gratitude and respect for my co-stars.” She added, “Our on-set energy―especially with Woo-shik―has been fantastic. I hope viewers feel that spark, too.”
Jung summed up "Would You Marry Me" as “a show everyone can laugh through together,” adding, “I hope it becomes a brief refuge from the daily grind.”
"Would You Marry Me" premieres Friday, Oct. 10 at 9:50 p.m. KST on SBS.
