As first-wave Korean punk band No Brain nears its 30th anniversary, the group delivered bittersweet news.
On the 1st, No Brain announced that bassist Jung Woo-yong is leaving the band due to health and personal reasons.
“We’re heavy-hearted to share this news,” the band said, expressing gratitude for Jung’s years with No Brain and adding, “We sincerely support him on the new path ahead.”
Jung, a core member who debuted with No Brain in 1996 alongside frontman-vocalist Lee Sung-woo and drummer Hwang Hyun-sung, was born in Seoul in 1982 and raised in Daejeon. A skilled bassist known for the afro perm he sported in his early 20s―earning him the nickname “Bbogeul”―he’s appeared on TV shows like "Radio Star" and played with indie outfits including Burning Hepburn and Sugar Donut.
No Brain will continue activities after Jung’s exit, with upcoming commitments to be fulfilled with session players, the band added.
Meanwhile, Lee Sung-woo is set to marry his partner later this month.
