Singer Lee Jae-young visited Busan during the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), revisiting her ties to 'Waikiki Brothers'.
Over Sept. 23?24, she shared on Instagram that she attended a special screening of 'Waikiki Brothers' and spent time exploring the city, posting photos from the festival grounds, the Busan shoreline and Gamcheon Culture Village.
Lee wrote that she headed to Busan with her heart racing, and that after watching the movie over and over through the years, seeing it on the big screen again felt like a dream ― profoundly moving.
Though she didn’t appear in the original film, Lee twice led the stage musical adaptation. For her, the BIFF screening was a rare moment when the story on screen met the one she brought to life onstage.
She also congratulated Myung Films on its 30th anniversary and shared behind-the-scenes tidbits from a post-screening Q&A, including her encounter with director Yim Soon-rye.
The emotion carried into the next day. Strolling along Haeundae Beach, she wrote that the characters’ aching songs kept echoing ― and that their music now flows into her own.
One line from the film ― 'Sung-woo, are you happy?' ― lingered in her mind. 'I’m madly in love with this human, heartfelt movie,' she added.
