Comedian Lee Jin-ho has acknowledged driving under the influence and apologized, his agency SM C&C said on the 24th.
“After confirming with him, we learned he drove under the influence in the early hours today,” the company said in a statement. “He completed questioning requested by the local police and is awaiting the authorities’ decision.”
“Lee takes full responsibility without excuses and is deeply reflecting on his actions,” the agency added. “We recognize the seriousness of this matter and will ensure he complies with all procedures and legal measures. We sincerely apologize for causing concern.”
According to the Yangpyeong Police Station in Gyeonggi Province, Lee has been booked without detention on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act.
He is suspected of driving roughly 100 kilometers from Incheon to Yangpyeong around 3 a.m. Police in Yangpyeong stopped him at about 3:20 a.m. after a request for assistance from the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency.
His breath alcohol concentration measured 0.11%, a level that warrants license revocation. At Lee’s request, police also conducted a blood test, and results are pending.
Lee, who debuted in 2005 as an SBS special-recruit comedian, has appeared on variety hits including SBS’ "People Looking for a Laugh," tvN’s "Comedy Big League" and JTBC’s "Knowing Bros." He halted activities last year after admitting on social media to participating in illegal gambling and is currently under investigation in that case as well.
