A YouTuber with 1.65 million subscribers is under investigation in Seoul after allegedly bolting from police during a suspected DUI stop, according to local reports.
Around 3:40 a.m. on the 21st in Seoul’s Songpa District, officers responded to a call about a possible drunk driver. The man, identified only as “A” and in his 30s, allegedly tried to flee in his sedan, then stopped in the middle of the road, flung the door open and sprinted roughly 300 meters into the night.
Police detained him, and at the scene he allegedly refused multiple requests to take a breathalyzer test. Songpa Police Station said he was arrested on suspicion of refusing a breath test under the Road Traffic Act and remains under investigation. In Korea, refusing a lawful breath test is treated as a serious offense on its own.
By law, a refusal can bring 1 to 5 years in prison or a fine of 5 million to 20 million won―the same penalty range applied to drivers with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.2% or higher. A refusal also triggers immediate license revocation.
The creator behind the 1.65 million-subscriber channel has not issued a statement regarding the alleged incident.
