"The Ugly" has ruled Korea’s box office for eight straight days.
According to the Korean Film Council’s KOBIS database on Sept. 23, the film drew 29,019 admissions on Sept. 22, pushing its cumulative total to 751,885.
After opening at No. 1 on Sept. 11, "The Ugly" briefly ceded the crown the next day to the theatrical release "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba ― The Movie: Infinity Castle." It reclaimed the top spot on Sept. 15 and hasn’t let go since. With screenings running into the Chuseok holiday period, the march to 1 million tickets looks well within reach.
Starring Park Jung-min, Kwon Hae-hyo and Shin Hyun-been, "The Ugly" follows a blind master seal engraver, Im Young-gyu, and his son, Im Dong-hwan, as they probe the 40-year mystery behind the mother’s death.
