RM of BTS celebrated his birthday with a generous act of giving.
The rapper donated 100 won million each to Asan Medical Center and Korea University Medical Center, for a total of 200 million won. The funds will help cover treatment costs for financially burdened patients and support improvements to care environments and medical services.
RM has made philanthropic donations every year on Sept. 12, his birthday. In 2021 and 2022, he supported cultural heritage preservation through the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation; in 2023, he donated to the Korean Society for Forensic Medicine; and in 2024, he contributed to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs’ veterans fund. This year, he’s continuing that impact by focusing on medically underserved patients and care infrastructure.
“I hope this brings a small but warm ray of hope to patients struggling financially,” RM said. “It’s meaningful to play even a small part in advancing medicine and upholding the value of life.”
Asan Medical Center plans to use the donation for treatment and surgical support for underprivileged patients, while Korea University Medical Center will prioritize upgrades to clinical environments and expanded services. “RM’s compassion will be a powerful source of strength for patients working to regain their health,” said Yoon Eul-sik, executive vice president for medical affairs at Korea University. “We’ll nurture this meaningful gift and continue to grow as a trusted medical institution.”
